This quote means that by reading a book you will be able to imagine and act as if you are living inside the book with the character. You may feel as if you are going through all the struggles they go through as well, right along with them. There may be times when you feel very bad for what is going on in the story and wish you could help, or other times you wish for the same thing to happen to you at sometime throughout your lifetime.

This quote relates to the book that I am reading, Pride and Prejudice, because there are many events that have happened in the story which I have never had the chance to experience myself. There are somethings in the book that I would love to happen to me, but then again there are others that my life wouldn't be ruined if they never occured. (:
